2JANE Celebrates Oribx Hot Glass

2JANE celebrating American design & designers by calling out Orbix Hot Glass creator Cal Breed should surprise no one! I’ve made no secret that I think he’s an exceptionally gifted glass blower, a clever designer, a successful businessman, and a great person.

His oeuvre of work runs the gamut from pitchers, decanters, and vases, to signature art pieces as bold and expressive as anything available in the highest end of the market, and, of course, there are those Swizzles I love so much… He’s a fixture at the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show and his work is coveted by galleries around the country.

I respect the fact that he opted out of the Seattle glass scene, chosing to remain loyal to his Alabama roots, building a home and studio in the rural town of Fort Payne. He’s very much a local hero, inviting the public to come watch as he works, an especially popular proposition for his annual make-your-own ornament workshop!

As his career grows we’ll continue to watch and enjoy, but I can’t possibly imagine him taking his art to a higher level than what you see below…

Is it wonder I love Cal? Who else features a Roxy Pitcher in his collection?
