The clever animal rings by London-based Soop Design, are the latest beloved character products following in the footsteps of the retired Mr. & Mrs. Jones Juicers.

But it’s all in good fun and we love what we do… This season, we were lucky to have a run on our gorgeous Champagne glasses thanks to unbelievably flattering editorial in Southwest’s Spirit Magazine. But, sadly, we felt like very unprepared elves when inventory ran low a good 2 weeks prior to Christmas!

Past years’ magazine coverage have given us equally memorable Holiday moments… Several years ago the New York Times featured a generous write up on a hand-made table that folds up and hangs on the wall when not in use. Well, as fascinating as this product is, it didn’t actually exist except for 1 sample. Needless to say the talented artist, a New Zealander based in London, was wood-working his fingers to the bone preparing tables as ‘must-have’ gifts in the lead-up to the Holidays. I don’t actually think a single table made it in time for anyone’s gift-giving, but we sure tried and all of our customers appreciated the effort!…

And then there was the year that Met Home featured our Mr. & Mrs. Jones juicers. Our erstwhile bestseller was an adorable pair of hand-made white ceramic forms whose hard little heads worked to juice fruits. Well, the precious items caught the eye of many more buyers than we were prepared for and up until 2-days before Christmas we were accepting large crates of the Jones from the artist, yet another London-based designer. This was before we had the good graces of warehouse storage,  and I’ll never forget putting on personal Holiday commitments aside and sitting on the stoop of my business partner’s home (enjoying the glorious weather that comes with December in Florida) unpacking the crates and repacking the happy pairs for their expedited journeys to trees and stockings around the country!

So, as this season comes to a close I do hope you’ve all received your requested packages and will be happy getting and giving all the gifts that will be opened by week’s end… Just don’t forget, presents are a year-round occurrence so when the first January birthday, wedding, or other bow & box-bringing occasion pops up 2JANE will be here to help brighten the day!

As a family member of a dear, dear friend, Glass Artist Cal Breed is someone I’ve known a number of years, which makes it all the more rewarding to see someone you genuinely care about receive the attention and accolades he deserves. Never mind that high-end, one-of-a-kind product is not quite as in demand as it was a year ago, this shouldn’t matter and to the true artist it doesn’t. Cal continues to be supported by his many, many fans and 2JANE couldn’t be prouder to have his products to offer.

In fact it is a collection of his glassware that I chose to give my business partner for her upcoming wedding. Of all the dozens of pieces of new and cutting-edge design I see every day there was never a question as to whose work I would be giving Beth and her new husband. Here’s a sneak peek:

The futuristic Mantel Dome Clock, is without peers.

The first batch of Mantel Dome clocks from Innermost are now available at 2JANE and in stores throughout North America. Everyone agrees the clock is a fabulously sleek and sexy design, but my business partner and I are surprised at the cautious approach our buyers are taking with this exceptional piece. Already a bestseller for Innermost around the world, it’s taking a little time for North America to warm to its unconventional combination of components.

Following are a few of my favorite nontraditional features and valid reasons why this clock will one day enjoy its day in the sun…

It’s a tiny clock that lifts like a watermelon—it’s 8.5″ high but its zinc body weighs nearly as much as our bestselling Fantome clock, which is twice its size. The unexpected heft adds to the dignity of this small, subtle piece.

Then there’s the shape of the timepiece—resembling an oversized, oblong Chicklet melting at the edges Dali-style—it definitely defies round and rectangular faces the world over. I find the soft-edged structure incredibly easy on the eye, almost serene.

But the loveliest aspect of the design, although possibly the most difficult for many to embrace, is the juxtaposition of the delicate glass dome with the leaden structure inside. The cover rests precisely on the smallest of edges surrounding the clock’s base and, admittedly, even the gentlest of touches can disturb its placement. But, as with any other precious piece, it should take pride of place in an area of a home or office that’s free of bumps and touches and scrapes from passersby. I love rough and tumble everyday use products as much as the next person, but we should still celebrate “handle with care” items and respect the fragility of hand-blown glass.

Undoubtedly, the whole of this design is greater than the sum of the parts, its just that some of the parts are requiring a little getting used to… And although I’m confident that one day this little bulldog of a product’s time will come, I wish the Mantel Dome could enjoy the popularity it deserves as a newly released item in a time when few people are daring to take risks!!!

She was actually standing in a tourist shop at Yosesmite when she had the idea to turn the naturally colored stone, often enduring the sad existence of highly polished paper weights, into useful objects for the home. (Given that Agate is mined in Brazil how it ever became a staple of Western US tourist traps is beyond me?!)
